We meet every third Wednesday of the month at Unity Hall, Central Road Yeovil, Somerset BA20 1JL. Yeovil Trades Union Council is made up from delegates from local Trades Union Branches. The meetings start at 7:30pm.

 

Yeovil & District Trades Union Council is affiliated to the Trades Union Congress ;  http://www.tuc.org.uk/ The TUC is the voice of Britain at work. With 54 affiliated unions representing 6.2 million working people from all walks of life, we campaign for a fair deal at work and for social justice at home and abroad. We negotiate in Europe, and at home build links with political parties, business, local communities and wider society. Yeovil TUC is affiliated to the Somerset County Association of Trades Councils.

 

We are also affiliated to the The Campaign For Trade Union Freedom was established in 2013 following a merger of the Liaison Committee For The Defence Of Trade Unions and the United Campaign to Repeal The Anti Trade Union Laws. The CTUF is a campaigning organisation fighting to defend and enhance trade unionism, oppose all anti-union laws as well as promoting and defending collective bargaining across UK, Europe and the World. http://www.tradeunionfreedom.co.uk/

We are affiliated to http://www.defendcouncilhousing.org.uk/dch/ DCH is opposed to the new Government housing strategy, an all-out assault on council housing. It proposes continued underfunding of council housing, combined with fixed-term tenancies, subsidies for more stock transfers, and increased sale of council homes through Right to Buy, to be replaced with up to 80 per cent market rents.

 


Branches may appoint delegates in accordance with Yeovil District TUC standing orders as shown below at an affiliation fee of 10p per member:


2 delegates for the first 100 or part thereof;
3 delegates if your membership is between 101 and 250;
4 delegates if your membership is between 251 and 500;
10 delegates if your membership exceeds 500.

 

Trades Union Council activities have three campaign objectives:

 

Rights: to raise public awareness of rights at work and the Union role in enforcing those rights.

 

Organisation: to promote organisation and recruitment drives to build the Union membership.

 

Respect: to support Union and community campaigns for dignity and respect in the workplace and beyond.
